Healing

‘Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church, and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.'

The Letter of James

Our physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being as human beings are all closely interconnected. The Gospels use the term ‘healing' both for physical healing and for the broader salvation that Jesus brings. Healing, reconciliation and restoration are integral to the good news of Jesus Christ. For this reason care for the sick, and prayer focused through the laying-on-of-hands and anointing with oil, has a special place within the life of the Church.

The ministry of healing is offered annually during the parish eucharist on the Sunday nearest St Luke’s Day (18th October) and at other times by arrangement.

The sick are prayed for at St Mary's on a daily basis. If you wish to add anyone to our prayer list, please contact the Parish Administrator. The clergy are always glad to arrange visits and home communion for the sick and housebound.
