All giving to St Mary's goes towards building the vision of this church. St Mary’s is a big show to keep on the road, and like everyone else we have to make ends meet. Our annual expenditure is over £110,000. The bills for the day-to-day running of St Mary's, the heating, the choir, the Sunday School, our youthwork, running the Parish Office, insurance etc all mount up. More than half of our total expenditure – over £1000 a week – goes to the Common Fund of the Diocese of London, which pays our clergy’s stipends and pensions, as well making a contribution to support parishes less fortunate than our own. We raise the bulk of this money via our stewardship scheme. People commit themselves to support the work of St Mary’s through regular planned giving by standing order, or through the envelope scheme in the Sunday collection. They give anything from £4 to £250 per month. Once a month, on a designated Sunday, we give all the cash in the collection (excluding that given through the envelope scheme) to various charities and mission projects. We support a number of charitable concerns, both at home and abroad. In 2000 we launched our Blueprint Appeal to fund the development and mission of St Mary’s over the next ten years. Now in its second phase, donations for this are also welcome. In order to give to the appeal, please see Blueprint Appeal. Whether you are a tax-payer or not, and whether your financial support is small or great, it is equally valuable. |
